Seafish is funding up to 50% of the cost of the Seafish/NFFF Fish Frying Skills qualification for individuals that apply by 13th November 2020 and who complete the assessment by 31st December 2020.
The course is carried out remotely and is limited to one learner per business with 20 funded places available on a first come, first served basis.
Applicants receive two self-study workbooks which they can work through at a time, place and pace that is convenient to them and, once feeling confident with their preparation and frying skills, they can then contact the NFFF to organise a remote assessment. This is conducted in two parts - an assessment of the preparation and frying skills and a 40 question multiple-choice exam.
Both the practical assessment and multiple-choice exam are assessed using video platforms including FaceTime, WhatsApp video and Zoom.
The fish and chip shop must have Wifi or suitable 4G bandwidth for a reliable video connection.
Successful candidates receive a certificate awarded by Seafish and the NFFF.
