Brakes has been awarded the Federation of Wholesale Distributors (FWD) Green Wholesaler ‘Gold Medal’ Award in recognition of the progress it has made with its CSR programme over the past year.
The Brakes’ entry focused on a number of industry-leading initiatives which helped move not only Brakes’ CSR forward, but that of the foodservice industry. It included the 2ZERO20 programme, which saw Brakes become the first wholesaler to deliver a plan to remove problematic plastics from the supply chain, as well as its commitment to be the first major business to introduce GTL (gas to liquid) fuel in London to try to help tackle the city’s pollution problems.
Brakes was also the first wholesaler to join Wrap’s UK Plastic Pledge and one of the first signatories of the Wrap Food Waste initiative.
Speaking of the award, Janice Rockwell, Brakes’ CSR lead, said: “As well as being the right thing to do, these issues are becoming increasingly important to many of our customers, so it’s fantastic to see the great strides we’ve made in the last year recognised by our industry peers.”
