Brits consume 1,460 cups of coffee every year

Caffeine loving Britons consume an average of 1,460 cups of coffee a year with latte the most popular, according to research by syrup maker Monin.


The data reveals that we consumer four cups of coffee a day and on spend an average of £676 a year at coffee shops and cafes – equivalent to £43,264 over a lifetime.


While latte was the most popular with 41% saying it is now their coffee of choice, this was followed closely by cappuccino (38%), americano (26%) and mocha (16%). When it comes to added extras, 18% of Brits like caramel syrup in our coffee, while 14% ask for vanilla and 10% want a touch of hazelnut.


Three in ten, meanwhile, (30 percent) claim they have their own signature coffee.

According to the research, Cardiff has the biggest fans of the black stuff with folk from the Welsh capital downing a staggering 1,825 cups a year, more than any other city in the UK.

There are now 22,845 coffee shops in the UK, a six percent increase year on year.
