Cup recycling scheme seeks shops across the Solent

The Solent Cup Recycling Project is looking for fish and chip shops in the PO and SOpost codes to come on board and help increase the number of used paper cups that are collected and recycled.

The project is based on the success of the Gosport Scheme that launched in March this year thanks to a collaboration between Huhtamaki, Gosport Borough Council, Portsmouth City Council, Simply Cups and Bettavend.

Local fish and chip shops are urged to join the scheme by contacting Simply Cups, which is offering reduced rates on cup collection membership as well as discounts on a range of cup recycling bins to businesses that join the project prior to the official launch date on 1st December.

Project manager at Simply Cups, Maddie Hickman, is delighted to launch this initiative and comments: “Paper cups can be recycled and we want to encourage local businesses to join our recycling service.  The Gosport Cup Recycling Scheme has been really successful and now we’ve joined up with Portsmouth City Council who is equally enthusiastic to roll this project out across The Solent Region.”

The scheme does not include businesses in the Isle of Wight.
