An entirely edible house is opening in Manchester tomorrow with a door made out of fish and chips.
The Home Sweet Home will be situated outside Manchester’s Media City and will be made from the most popular British food favourites ordered through the app including a Yorkshire pudding garden, fish and chips door, beans on toast roof tiles and even a roast chicken weather vane.
A team of eight people has spent two months designing, cooking and building the structure which will open for breakfast, lunch and dinner tomorrow and Wednesday only to guests who have been lucky enough to secure a ticket in a free online ballot. They will have an hour in which to enjoy their favourite meals including fish and chips and pizza - all on the house.
Deliveroo chose Manchester as the location for its Best of British house after it was revealed that Mancunians order more traditional British dishes than anywhere else in the UK.
The takeaway giant has observed a nationwide 38% rise in orders of comforting British dishes on the app since temperatures began to plummet across the country, proving we are a nation falling back in love with home-grown comfort food.
Emily Kraftman at Deliveroo said: “It’s been almost impossible to ignore the spike in orders of classic British dishes since the summer has ended. The public appear to have rekindled their love for home-grown culinary favourites.
"Whether you love Scotch eggs or scones, you can celebrate the gastronomic renaissance and enjoy the ultimate night-in experience with Deliveroo”
The top 10 dishes ordered through the app include the All The Way burger from Five Guys in first place followed by cod and chips from The Village Fish & Chip Shop. Haddock and chips from Fosters Fish & Chips came in ninth place.
