Dogs tuck into takeaways with their owners

Almost half (47%) of dog-owners admit they like to give their pooch leftovers from their takeaways.

The study by pet food brand ACANA found that more than a quarter (28%) of dogs are also allowed to tuck into their owners’ leftovers, with one in ten even being allowed to polish off puddings.

And today’s dogs have become so much a part of the family that 52% now favour human food over their own.

The study of 1,500 pet owners also found that the average UK dog will eat three fish fingers, three slices of pizza and three rashers of bacon on a monthly basis.

Other human food favourites according to the data, are chicken nuggets, with dogs eating three a month on average, sausages, also enjoyed three times a month, and even steak, with British pooches enjoying at least two scraps of the finest fillet or T-bone each month.

The research also found that 23% of owners feel guilty if they don’t share some of their food with their pup.

As tempting as it is to indulge our pets, ACANA advises against giving dogs scraps and leftovers, advocating a balanced diet full of fresh meats and a limited amount of fruit and vegetable.
