Face mask rule for indoor hospitality extended in Scotland

Scotland's mandatory face covering rules for indoor hospitality settings remain in force until 18th April, Nicola Sturgeon has announced.

The legal requirement to wear masks was expected to be lifted next week but the first minister has now delayed the move amid what she says is a "very high level of infection and the pressure on the NHS".

Saying that she was "mindful that the data may now be indicating a peaking of this wave of infection", Sturgeon has announced that the law would be replaced with guidance for hospitality on 18th April.

Acknowledging that face masks are an "inconvenience", she went on to say this phased approach struck a "sensible balance between our desire to remove this one remaining legal measure and the common sense need for continued caution".
