The Food Standards Agency has collated guidance for food businesses operating during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The advice is provided to help employers, employees and the self-employed understand how to work safely in the food sector. This follows the publication of the government’s COVID-19 recovery strategy and complements wider business guidance published by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
The guidance covers a range of areas, including social distancing, cleaning and staff training. It outlines the hygiene processes and requirements food businesses must follow as they develop new ways of working.
The FSA's advice is clear that it remains very unlikely that people can catch COVID-19 from food. COVID-19 is a respiratory illness and not known to be transmitted by exposure to food or food packaging.
