Generous chippy donates £500 Sarson's prize to charity

The Codfather in Aylesbury has donated a £500 prize it won as part of an industry competition to its local food bank.

The chippy scooped the cash sum after winning Sarson’s ‘Proud To Serve Our Community' competition for its ‘pay it forward’ scheme, which it introduced during the height of the coronavirus pandemic. The initiative encouraged customers to buy something from the menu which the chippy then provided as vouchers to a local food bank. Each donation was matched by the fish and chip shop, which meant double the number of vouchers were given to those that needed it the most.

Juliano Brito, who owns the business with partners Matthew Marks and Peter Marks, comments: “We were incredibly chuffed to be recognised and awarded first prize by Sarson's for our community efforts prior to and during the Covid pandemic. Our pay it forward scheme at The Codfather was an amazing success, managing to raise awareness for the local food bank and getting the community together raising an incredible 238 meals for the food bank at a time of need.

“We were incredibly grateful to Sarson's for awarding us with the £500 cash prize, and the recognition alone filled us with great happiness.

“Over the past couple of weeks we have been thinking of what to do with the prize and it has become clear to us that we want to do some good with it. So we will be donating the full £500 as food vouchers to the Aylesbury Food Bank in the hope that we will once again put a smile on people's faces - especially those that may not be able to afford themselves a fish and chips treat at our stores.”
