Hirds Family Fisheries in Halifax, West Yorkshire, has donated over 300 meals to a local homeless shelter since it opened its doors to those in need in November last year.
The takeaway has been delivering up to 20 portions of fish and chips every Thursday evening to CTC The Gathering Place, which runs a winter shelter between November and February.
Hirds Family Fisheries owner Adam Hird comments: “This is the third year now we’ve supported the winter shelter and it’s just a great cause. Everybody is vetted that goes into the winter shelter so we know we are helping the right people out. The shelter goes on to re-home people too - last year they managed to re-home 13 individuals, I believe.
“It’s a great cause and they do a fantastic job. To be able to provide a hot meal of fish and chips is really appreciated - and the staff all appreciate it too as it means they have a night off from cooking!”
Hird’s has also been passing on tins and packet food to the shelter which customers have kindly donated via the takeaway.
“We pass those on when we take in the fish and chips. It all helps as the shelter relies on donations. It’s nice to be able to give back and help,” adds Adam.
