Heading south

Get a glimpse of what this year’s Fish Frying & Fast Food Show has to offer as it moves south to Ashton Gate Stadium, home to Bristol City FC

The Fish Frying & Fast Food Show 2017 in conjunction with T.Quality kicks off at the newly refurbished Ashton Gate Stadium, Bristol City FC, on Sunday 11th June, giving shops access to hundreds of leading industry suppliers, new product launches, samples and demonstrations as well as practical advice and hints and tips to move a business forward.

Talking about the importance of this year’s show, Reece Head, show organiser, comments: “The eating out market is becoming all the more competitive, not just with more outlets opening up, but because extended operating hours and delivery services mean consumers can now get a whole host of food options almost anywhere and anytime. Meanwhile, changes in consumer behaviour means the three traditional meal occasions no longer exist; breakfast and lunch are blurring, snacking and grazing continue to increase, while desserts are a meal occasion in their own right rather just a way to round-off a meal. This is the competition we have to contend with.

“A visit to this year’s Fish Frying & Fast Food Show will help inspire shops, whether it’s gathering ideas on how to bring premises up-to-date, adding a new exciting food item to the menu, or simply finding out how to save money on utilities, like your business insurance. We’ve got it all under one roof and, of course, there are plenty of experts on hand to talk to, whether that be exhibitors or fellow fish friers.”

Shops looking to update their equipment will have the opportunity to compare frying ranges from manufacturers including KFE, Hopkins and Henry Nuttall. Henry Nuttall, for example, will be showcasing its high efficiency ECO burner with integral filtration, curved glass display cabinets and open top frying. Visitors will also be able to see demonstrations of its improved triple stage integral filtration.

Meanwhile, demonstrating how to extend oil life, improve the taste and quality of food all while reducing labour time will be VITO with its third generation VITO 80. Claimed to be the only portable oil filtration system in the world that can filter down to five microns (the equivalent of 70th of a human hair) using only one biodegradable filter paper, it will be available to purchase at a special one-day only price of £1,995 and will be offered with a free box of filter papers. Visitors can also catch live demos of the filter in action in a Hopkins frying range.

Scoop a prize worth £200 with Hopkins

As well as viewing Hopkins’ high efficiency frying range along with a selection of products including chippers, peelers and batter mixers, friers will also be able to handle and try out the company’s much-talked about chip scoops.

Developed in conjunction with Burton Road Chippy in Lincoln, the scoops come in three sizes (6, 10 and 14oz) and are guaranteed to offer consistent portion control. What’s more, there will be a prize drawer giving one lucky frier the chance to win a complete range of the brand new chip scoops worth £200.

Showcasing the latest trends in shopfitting and signage will be Barland Shopfitters, Elite Shopfitters Leeds and BD Signs, while offering inspiration for the menu will be a host of suppliers including Penny Lane, James T. Blakeman and Pacific West.

Visitors to the McWhinney’s stand will be able to sample its Premium, Bigfoot and Gold sausages, while at Double A Kebab’s stand, shops will not only be able to taste the Keburger, a premium quality beef burger with kebab spices, but also take advantage of a show discount and discuss best practice to serving kebabs.

There will be even more chances to try out the latest menu must-haves as Fast Food Systems will be sampling its new Premier Chicken Gravy and Piri Piri Salt as well as cooking up its Southern Fried Chicken and grilled Piri Piri chicken strips.

The show will also provide one of the first opportunities to see Keejay’s newly relaunched Goldfish Brand sauces as well as try its new Japanese Style Curry Sauce and its Mr Lee’s handmade pancake rolls, which make an alternative to fish and chips.

Goldensheaf, Henry Jones and Dinaclass, meanwhile, will be offering samples of its batter mixes and curry and gravy sauces, as well as giving visitors the opportunity to taste its Chicken Train Lemon & Herb Marinade, perfect for shops serving grilled fish.

As well as showcasing its SeaPure IQF cod and haddock, SeaPure scampi and fishcakes, Trawler packaging and Omega and Plus20 fats and oils, T.Quality will be debuting its used cooking oil collection service. Fully operational nationwide, it is managed and operated through its network of ten depots which are fully compliant with current used cooking oil and dripping waste collection legislation.

What’s more, all visitors to the show will be eligible to enter a competition to win a pallet of Plus20 palm oil.

With representatives from the beverage sector including AG Barr, Coca-Cola Britvic and Cott Beverages, and packaging experts such as Coveris, Linpac, Dart Products and Dempson Crooke all in attendance, visitors can pick up plenty of ideas to boost incremental sales by offering hot and cold drinks. Dart Products, for example, can help shops upscale with a professional takeaway packaging range that includes foam, PET and paper hot cups as well as custom print options and its Trawler EPS printed packaging.

Operators can also find out about the latest insurance policy Wrapped, which has been designed specifically with fish and chip shops in mind to better protect them, as well as check out Ansul Fire Suppression Systems which put out pan fires before they’ve had a chance to get started.

Joe Kendrick, marketing manager at T.Quality, encourages friers to take time out and visit the show, adding: “It’s the perfect timing for shops to take a quick breather, see what’s new out there and get stocked up for the summer season with great offers from all the leading brands from T. Quality. Don’t wait until the season has finished at the end of the year, come along to find out more.”
