One chippy owner will walk away with the title of Best Fish & Chip Shop on Sunday when ITV airs its first ever British Food & Drink Awards.
The awards, which have already been filmed, are presented by Stephen Fry at Merchants’ Taylor Hall in London’s Threadneedle Street and will be shown on ITV 1 on Sunday 9th February from 10.10pm.
The awards are the first by ITV and aim to showcase the heroes and high-achievers of the food and drink industry. As well as best fish and chip shop, categories include the best family-run restaurant, gastro pub of the year and an innovation award.
Currently, the only name to be made public in the running for the fish and chip shop award is Malt and Anchor in Cirencester, Gloucester, suggesting it could be taking home the title.
The chippy opened in 2017 with a modern take on fish and chips, pairing its food with craft beers, cocktails and prosecco and adding new twists on popular favourites such as ham hock mushy peas, quails eggs and flavoured salt and panko coated calamari.
In 2018, just 11 months after opening, it was awarded Best Newcomer at the National Fish & Chip Awards.
Businesses initially put themselves forwards for the British Food & Drink Awards before customers voted for their favourite. The overall winners have been chosen by a panel of experts with a passion for British food from fine dining to street food.
A spokesman for the awards said: “This long-awaited celebration of the UK’s world-beating culinary talent will honour those who have contributed most to Britain’s remarkable renaissance in food, drink and catering.”
