Just Eat has agreed to be taken over by Dutch rival Takeaway.com, creating one of the world’s largest online food delivery platforms.
The £9 billion deal will see the formation of Just Eat Takeaway.com N.V, which will boast 40 million customers across 20 countries.
The combined companies delivered 360 million orders in 2018 worth €7.3 billion.
Founded in 2000, Takeaway.com has rapidly grown to become the leading online food delivery marketplace in Europe, processing nearly 94 million orders from 14.1 million unique consumers in 2018.
Just Eat has over 26 million customers and more than 100,000 Restaurant Partners globally.
A statement issued by Just Eat today said the combination would create “one of the largest online food delivery companies in the world, with scale, strategic vision, industry leading capabilities, leading positions in attractive markets and a diversified geographic presence”.
Shares in Just Eat jumped nearly 23% this morning to 780.2p on news of the deal.
