Ryan Baker, sales manager at Middleton Foods, has been elected as the new president of The National Edible Oils and Distributors' Association (NEODA).
Ryan took over the reins from Frymax brand manager Andrew Marriott at the organisation’s AGM in London earlier last week. Ryan has been involved in NEODA for over 15 years and moved onto various roles within the association. This culminated in being elected vice-president and now president.
Commenting on his new role, Ryan says: “I feel very honoured. NEODA is an integral part of the fish and chip industry and oil packing and distributive trade and has been helping to maintain standards and raise awareness for over 70 years. There are a number of outstanding individuals in the organisation so it’s a great privilege to be president.”
Ryan will hold the position for the next two years in which time he aims to continue the successful oil monitoring process, which analyses oils and fats to ensure customers and consumers are not misled as to their nature, quality or quantity, as well as aid organisations that run trade initiatives and ensure the future growth and success of National Fish and Chip Day.
Describing the industry as going from strength to strength, Ryan believes his presidency has come at an exciting time, adding: “We have some wonderful operators who are constantly pushing the boundaries of what people expect from our national dish. The same can be said of many of the manufacturers and suppliers in our industry who also continue to innovate and educate.
“New challenges always seem to arise but our industry uses them to continually move things forward. We must make sure we self-promote and push our positive messages. We offer a healthy and nutritious product in a range of sizes to suit all members of society, we can offer products that are designed to fit most dietary and lifestyle choices and, as an industry, we continue to promote sustainable products. We have a lot to shout about and it's wonderful to see so many people doing so.”
