Nine shops compete for Britain’s Best Takeaway

Updated: Oct 15, 2019

Nine fish and chip shops have made the regional finals of the British Takeaway Awards, sponsored by Just Eat.

In London, The Brothers Fish Bar in Gravesend made the grade while from the East Midlands it’s Chris’s Fish 'N' Chips, Barwell, that has topped the list and in the West Midlands, Fiddlers Elbow Fish & Chips, Leintwardine.

Old Mother Hubbards in Oldham is competing for the best in the North West, while Hirds Family Fisheries in Halifax is hoping to win the title for Yorkshire.

Wales is also represented by Traditional No 8 Fish & Chip Shop in Whitland, while Northern Ireland has three finalists - Browns Fish & Chips and Feeley's Fish & Chips, both in Belfast, and Rocket Chip in Lisburn.

The chippies are up against a host of takeaways from Italian to Indian and from desserts to BBQ.

One takeaway from each region will be crowned winner, based on public votes, mystery shopping and a submission stating why they should win. They will each receive £1,000 cash, their Just Eat sign-up fee refunded or a free sign-up to Just Eat and a British Takeaway Awards trophy. From these winners, one will go on to win the overall title of Best Takeaway in Britain and £5,000 cash.

Now in their fifth year, the British Takeaway Awards reward the dedication of local takeaways across a multitude of cuisines, recognising their contribution to the economy on a truly national scale.

The award ceremony will be held on 27th January at London’s Savoy Hotel where accolades will also be presented for Britain’s Best Takeaway Chef and Delivery Driver, which celebrate the behind the scene heroes who make takeaways brilliant, and Game Changer, for restaurants that are making waves in the industry.
