Papa’s Fish & Chips is opening a 350 seater restaurant and takeaway in the popular seaside town of Blackpool on the north west coast of England.
The company has taken over the former Las Iguanas site on Church Street, which is situated in a high footfall area right on the seafront opposite North Pier on the Golden Mile.
The ground floor restaurant - which Papa’s hopes to have open later this week or early next week - will offer indoor and outdoor dining, takeaway, click and collect as well as a full bar. On the menu will be all the food Papa’s is famous for plus a couple of adjustments for the north west, such as pies and puddings.
Having branched out from its Hull home over the years, Papa’s is targeting more and more seaside locations, with sites now in Bridlington, Cleethorpes, Scarborough and Whitby, plus a 250 seater restaurant coming soon to Skegness.
Owner George Papadamou, says: “We've always absolutely loved Blackpool, it’s an amazing seaside resort, it’s extremely popular and it’s world-renowned as a destination to have a lot of fun and eat a lot of fish and chips at. It’s somewhere we’ve always dreamt of opening, we loved going to the seaside growing up and Blackpool was 100% one of our seaside trips, so it was always on the list of dream sites and dream opportunities. As soon as we had the chance, we had to take it.”
The new site will create 100 new job opportunities, which George says they are well on the way to filling.
“We’ve cast a really wide net with regards recruiting and, to be honest, we’ve not struggled as much as we thought we would," says George. "We’ve got a reputation as a good employer and the people of Blackpool are really excited about the new opening because it’s something that offers all-year-round work, which can be a rarity around the coast.”
The restaurant, the first for Papa’s on the north west coast, is already attracting interest among regulars, something that has taken Papa’s by surprise.
George adds: “With Blackpool being such a prominent seaside location in the north, lots of our regular customers who visit our Whitby, Scarborough and Hull restaurants also go to Blackpool on their holidays. So we’ve had a lot of people ask us about the new site and when we’ve asked them how they know about it they’ve told us they were in Blackpool recently and spotted the signs going up. That’s when you realise what a small world it is!”
