Pulse batter and Vincent gravy win awards for Whitley’s

Two of VA Whitley’s own label products have scooped top accolades at the CCM Chefs’ Own-Brand Awards organised by Cash & Carry Management in partnership with the Craft Guild of Chefs.



Whitley’s Pulse ‘Gluten Free’ Batter Flour and Vincent’s Gravy Mix both scooped awards, which are designed to show that private own labels are just as good, and in many cases far better, than the big global brands.


Pulse Batter Flour won the Gluten Free Category and was hailed as “a truly remarkable product”. The team tried several ways to test the product to its fullest - even coating a greasy sausage. They were staggered to see that Pulse remained crispy, dry and tasty. The judges commented: “Why on earth wouldn’t a fish and chip shop just use Pulse? It’s a fantastic batter and they would have the advantage of being Gluten Free all of the time!”


Meanwhile, its Vincent’s Gravy Mix won the Gravy & Stocks category and was complimented on its colour, flavour and depth and described as “not your run-of-the-mill gravy”. Whilst presenting the trophy, the head of The Guild said: “Of all the many products I have tasted, Vincent’s stood out because it is just like an old-fashioned, proper, traditional Gravy.”
