The infamous columns of Colmans Seafood Temple in South Shields were lit up at the weekend in a show of support for the NHS.
A different colour of the rainbow was beamed onto each column and they will remain glowing until the lockdown is over.
The light show was installed as a way for the restaurant’s owners and staff to show their appreciation for key workers during the coronavirus and to boost morale within the local community.
Owner Richard Ord Jnr comments: “I thought of the idea to light up Colmans Seafood Temple to show our support to our NHS and key workers, the work they are doing at the minute is to be commended. I hope this just brings a smile to people as they drive past during this unprecedented time.
“The response has been fantastic, it seems to have lifted everyone’s spirits and it’s nice to be able to do that during these times.”
Colmans Seafood Temple closed for business on March 23rd in line with government guidelines surrounding coronavirus. While its doors remain shut for now, its sister site in Ocean Road is opening a click & collect and home delivery service tomorrow for customers located within a three mile radius. They will be able to prebook slots for Thursday, Friday or Saturday between 12-8pm.
