The Cod’s Scallops to open third Nottingham site

The Cod’s Scallops is opening its third restaurant and takeaway in Nottingham, taking it to six sites overall.

The purpose-built, 40-cover restaurant and takeaway is scheduled to open in May/June of next year at the brand new Wilford Lane Retail Park in West Bridgford. Work has already begun on the new site, where it will be joined by Lidl, Starbucks, Pure Gym, a vets and Dunkin Donuts.

The news comes just weeks after The Cod’s Scallops opened its first site in Birmingham, in the town of Harborne.

Owner John Molnar comments: “West Bridgford is the first Cod’s Scallops that is completely different to where we’ve been before in that it’s on a retail park. It has plenty of passing trade, West Bridgford is a really good area of Nottingham and a lot of people travel through the city to come to our Mansfield Road shop so we felt with this one we’ve almost got the whole of Nottingham covered now.

“We should get the keys in about March/April and be open by May/June.”

The restaurant and takeaway will follow the new style decor as rolled out at

Harborne, which includes a range of different seating options, darker flooring, oak counter tops and a larger focus on evening dining.

John comments: “Harborne has gone really well and the changes we’ve made to the branding have been really well received. Whereas we’ve always been known for being a really good chippy, the new elements we’ve introduced make it a great dinner destination too.”

The site will create between 15 and 20 new jobs and may be followed up by further openings next year, with John adding: “Birmingham is a great city and Harborne has been really well received so there’s no reason why we shouldn’t look at another site there, maybe around the Solihull, Mere Green, Moseley type areas.”
