At: Plattens Fish & Chips, Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk
Luke Platten, business manager, who says: “Michael is one of the most upbeat, determined and kind-hearted people that we have working at Plattens. We don’t believe there's a harder worker out there. Nothing’s ever too much bother for Michael and he’s always there to support his team and help them through the pressures that come with a busy store. He plays a major role in helping us to provide the best customer experience that we can. Our team wouldn’t be the same without him."
How long have you worked at Plattens?
I’ve worked at Plattens for five years. I started as a server, then progressed to a frier after a couple of years, and have now worked my way up to becoming a shift leader.
What are your responsibilities?
I’m responsible for the day-to-day running of the chip shop. I am in charge of ensuring that the customer has the best experience possible, from taking their first steps through the door to their last. Plattens Fish and Chips has been recognised as one of the top 20 in the country so it is very important to keep the standards consistently high.
What’s your favourite part of the job?
I really enjoy being out in the restaurant area, interacting with the customers, having a laugh with them and making sure their meals are as good as can be.
What’s your least favourite part of the job?
I love nearly all aspects of my job but if I had to pick my least favourite I’d probably say I’ve had a few health issues over the past year or so and have been unable to support the team as much as I used to. But I’m now starting to feel my old self again, meaning I can help them and still go the extra mile for the customers.
What is it that you like about working at Plattens?
I like building relationships with customers and seeing them return time and time again, as well as working with a great team in a really good environment, knowing that I’m providing the best experience possible for the customers.
How do you feel about being nominated as an Unsung Hero?
I am very proud and feel appreciated for the hard work I’ve put in over the years.
