How long have you worked at Churchills?

I started working for Fishnchickn, a sister brand to Churchill's, when I was 16 in 2010 while I was studying for my A levels. I had two fantastic managers who always displayed such passion for the company and their customers that my enjoyment for the job developed so much that I increasingly wanted to become more of a part of it. I applied to become a Sunday frier when I was 17-18 whereby I would be responsible for the store on a part time basis on a Sunday. I thoroughly enjoyed my job so carried on while at university. During this time, I got offered a position of assistant manager in our Chingford Hatch Branch, which the company thankfully changed their rota to be flexible for me to still continue studying. Having worked for the company for over seven years, I'm now the manager of a flagship store in Pitsea, Basildon.


What are your responsibilities?

I'm responsible for the day-to-day running of the store in accordance to the company brand standards. This ranges from organising adequate staffing levels are in place to ensure an effective and economic match for our customer patterns, to managing the in-house computer hub system for cash and stock management and cooking quality fresh products.

I'm also responsible for establishing and maintaining staff training records and appraisals to promote the delivery of 'wow' customer service. Overall, it’s a case of working closely with the team to ensure we are performing well from doing our best for our customers to ensuring the successful financial management of the store.   


What’s your favourite part of the job?

I actually pretty much consider myself to be a company geek! I thoroughly enjoy working for Churchill's so there isn't a lot I don't like. However, my passion is cooking high quality fish and chips. I love knowing exactly where our food comes from and being able to have a laugh and a joke with the customers, while also confidently being able to answer any questions about our product provenance and the quality of the products we source out and use. 


What's your least favourite part of the job?

So, sometimes things go wrong! I'll be preparing the chips in the morning, lifting a sack of potatoes into the peeler and the bag splits all over the floor! Not winning! Aside from little things like that, I enjoy every aspect of my role.


What is it that you like about working at Churchills?

Everything. I'm incredibly proud to be a part of the brand. I love the ambition the company installs within, it feels like we are all one big family, even our bosses come down weekly and cook alongside us, showing us all how it's done! 


How do you feel about being nominated as an unsung hero?

Over the moon! I feel so proud to be representing the company and honoured that I’m considered amongst the great people we have running our stores.
